I am Molli Mardi van der Merwe, from South Africa, I am a Interior Decorator & Designer, Social Media Manager and Writer for 3 of our South African Angling magazines and the new online version. Besides that, I am a city girl turned fishing girl.
I have been fishing for 10 years with my hubby Wors, 3 years ago the Specimen fever grabbed a decent hold of me.
Since then I have been an Avid Carp Angler, always trying new things, experimenting and learning everyday! How to catch bigger carp, and oneday catch that massive big one!
My husband, Wors and I, are often referred to as the married couple rookies by fellow anglers.
We normally fish public venues, no access to syndicate venues, accompanied by our darling Pitbull, we enjoy every minute on the bank.
We have a strict #NoKillBitch policy no matter the size of the catch!
Catch Photograph & Release #CPR, safely into the same water the Carp was caught from.
We promote the safety of all fish species, educate and help fellow anglers convert to Specimen Angling and always have a great time doing it.
I am proud to say, I was the first ever FEMALE South African Specimen Carp Angler to participate in the South African Carp Master Qualifying event in March 2018. We as a team won and proceeded to represent South Africa at the World Carp Masters in Czech Republic in September 2018. We caught the biggest Carp of the tournament, were section winners and 5th place overall as a married couple duo.
Other than sometimes being a little bit competitive, I enjoy going out with friends to catch some gorgeous looking carp! Making memories and taking photos for keeps!
Taking some nature and product photos, promoting brands and just having a good old time on the bank.
I am also currently busy with the start up of a small lifestyle type blog namely “Poor Man’s Bivvy Life”. Giving advice on how to make the best of every second next to the bank and creating some proper dishes to enjoy at budget prices (we all have to be budget wise nowadays) giving credit where credit is due.
Some interesting tips and advice I have learned on my journey as a Female Specimen Angler, a big challenge to be taken seriously amongst some of the men here.
